The Shocking Surprise

It was a sunny spring afternoon in New Lenox. I was with my cousins and we had just finished eating. My cousins and I went out for a bit and when we came back in my oldest cousin, Tati, said she wanted to make an announcement. She went to the front of the room with her husband as we all found a place to sit. She hesitated at first, but then her and her husband said joyfully "we're pregnant!"

"She's kidding right?"
"I sure hope so" said our judge mental abuelas. My mom and tia ran up to her screaming (in an excited way) to congratulate her. I couldn't decide if I was happy or not so I stayed quiet for the time being.

Later that day when I was telling my best friend the details, Tati comes in and asked how I felt about her being pregnant again. I explained how she just had twins and by the time she has the new baby her twins wil barely be turning one! Meanwhile her oldest will be turning turning 19 and ready to move out and go to college the following fall. I wasn't the most excited but she's family and I love her and will be there for her no matter what.

As much as my mom and I tell her it's ok that there's another little one coming soon and that we're happy for her, she's still a little shooken up with how the rest of the family reacted. Now that the baby's due within the next 2 months, she's finally happy about her surprise baby.

  1. Wow! That must have been kind of awkward! It's great that you and your mom are being so supportive. I'm sure she appreciates that.

  2. Hi Karina, I've never had anything like that happen to me because I have 2 high school cousins, who live in KOREA, but it's cool how even though you and your family weren't as excited, your family still supports and is now happy about the baby. Best Wishes! :)
